Sodium Nitrate, an inorganic compound with the chemical formula NaNO3, is a hygroscopic colorless transparent triangular system of crystals. It decomposes when heated to 380℃. Very soluble in water, liquid ammonia, soluble in methanol and ethanol, very slightly soluble in acetone, slightly soluble in glycerol. Absorb heat when dissolved in water, the solution becomes cold, the aqueous solution is neutral. It is used in the manufacture of nitric acid, sodium nitrite, as ingredients in glass, match, enamel or ceramic industry, fertilizer, catalyst in sulfuric acid industry. Sodium nitrate is also the raw material for the manufacture of potassium nitrate, mining explosives, picric acid, dyes and so on. It is used as nitrifying agent in the manufacture of dyestuff intermediates.
