Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) is chemically stable and does not react with most substances under normal conditions. In nature, titanium dioxide has three kinds of crystallization: plate titanium type, anatase and rutile type. Plate titanium type is unstable crystal, no industrial use value, acute titanium type (Anatase) referred to as A type, and rutile type (Rutile) referred to as R type, all have stable crystal lattice, is an important white pigment and porcelain glaze, and other white pigments compared with the superior whiteness, coloring power, hiding power, weatherability, heat resistance, and chemical stability, in particular, there is no toxicity.

Titanium dioxide is regarded as a white pigment with the best performance in the world, and is widely used in coating, plastics, rubber, ink, paper, chemical fiber, ceramics, daily chemicals, medicine, food and other industries.
The coating industry is the largest user of titanium dioxide, especially rutile titanium dioxide, most of which is consumed by the coating industry. Paint made with titanium dioxide, bright colors, high hiding power, strong coloring power, dosage savings, more varieties, the stability of the medium can play a protective role, and can enhance the mechanical strength of the paint film and adhesion, to prevent cracks, to prevent ultraviolet rays and moisture through the film to extend the life of the paint.
Plastics industry is the second largest user, adding titanium dioxide in plastics, can improve the heat resistance of plastic products, light resistance, weather resistance, so that the physical and chemical properties of plastic products to improve, enhance the mechanical strength of the products, prolong the service life.
Paper industry is the third largest user of titanium dioxide, as a paper filler, mainly used in senior paper and thin paper. Add titanium dioxide in paper, can make the paper has good whiteness, good gloss, high strength, thin and smooth, printing does not penetrate, light quality. Titanium dioxide for papermaking generally use acute titanium dioxide without surface treatment, can play the role of fluorescent whitening agent, increase the whiteness of paper. However, laminated paper requires the use of surface-treated rutile titanium dioxide to meet the requirements of light and heat resistance.
Titanium dioxide is also an indispensable white pigment in high-grade inks. The ink containing titanium dioxide is durable and does not change color, has good surface wettability and is easy to disperse. The titanium dioxide used in the ink industry is rutile and anatase.
Textile and chemical fiber industry is another important application of titanium dioxide. Titanium dioxide for chemical fiber is mainly used as a matting agent. Since anatase is softer than rutile, anatase is generally used. Chemical fiber with titanium dioxide generally do not need surface treatment, but some special varieties in order to reduce the photochemical effect of titanium dioxide, to avoid fiber degradation in the role of titanium dioxide photocatalysis, the need for surface treatment.
Enamel industry is an important application of titanium dioxide, enamel grade titanium dioxide with high purity, good whiteness, color, bright, uniform particle size, strong refractive index and high achromatic power, with a strong opacity and opacity, so that the enamel coating after the coating is thin, smooth and acid-resistant, and in the enamel manufacturing process can be mixed uniformly with other materials, not agglomerate, easy to melt and other advantages.
Ceramic industry is also an important application of titanium dioxide, ceramic grade titanium dioxide has high purity, uniform particle size, high refractive index, excellent high temperature resistance, in the 1200 ℃ high temperature conditions to maintain 1 hour without changing the characteristics of gray. High opacity, thin coating, light weight, widely used in ceramics, construction, decoration and other materials.
